Haki Madin Kenya at 10 years
Our 10 years of impactful work
Ten years ago, the media increasingly profiled Mui Basin as an area where coal exploration was set to kick off. However, communities had no information about where they were to be relocated. NCCK, CJPC and Diakonia Sweden, as organizations working in Kitui at the time, supported a rapid assessment study to understand the issues of concern in the community. Community forums were organized to share the report and validate the problems analyzed. The goal was one—putting the community at the front and centre of decision-making in the extractive sector. That marked the birth of the Haki Madini Kenya coalition. Over the years, we have made remarkable successes, which this documentary highlights.
